Every summer in south Louisiana you can almost set your watch for an afternoon rain shower. While this mid-day precipitation can provide some much-needed relief, it can also wreak havoc on your backyard pool and spa.  This is especially true when a scattered shower turns into a massive deluge.  Rain, debris, and other runoff can quickly and easily wreck the chemical balance, clarity, and health of your pool’s water.  However, there are preventative measures you can take to protect your pool as much as possible if you have the benefit of a forecasted weather event, or are planning to go out of town for a while.  There are also some necessary steps to take after a storm to restore your pool’s safe, clean, clear water.

Life hacks have become a popular blog and YouTube topic.  The theory behind these “hacks” is using common things (cleverly) to make common problems or tasks easier to solve and do.  Whether you are repurposing containers, salvaging iPhone cords, using frozen grapes to keep your wine cold, or just want a simpler way to care for your pool, there’s a hack for that.  Here are four tips that you may not have thought of to keep your pool clean and comfortable this spring and summer.

In south Louisiana it takes a while for the cooler weather to arrive, but when it does it’s hard to ignore the temperature drop.  This is especially true if you’ve been enjoying a mid-October swim.  Even though the sun can warm up during the day, and some humidity may return, lower temps overnight and more comfortable daytime highs can make, a keep your pool water on the chilly side.  This means a couple of different things, the first, and most obvious one is that you’ll be using the pool less, if at all.  The second is that if you have a pool heater, this is the time of the year to kick it on.  Here are a few tips on how to keep your pool clean, and how to use your heater this fall and winter.
