Pool Maintenance Tips to Prepare Your Pool for Spring

While it still may be a little early to hop back in the pool, it’s never too soon to start thinking about the ever-important pool maintenance that keeps your backyard oasis safe and comfortable. Between the holidays and unseasonably cold (even for winter) weather it’s easy for your pool’s maintenance to take a back seat to more seasonal obligations. As the temperatures, and subsequent humidity, continue to increase it’ll soon be time to listen to LSU baseball games as you dip your feet. This makes right now the right time to have a professional come out and conduct an inspection as well as seasonal pool start-up maintenance. These procedures ensure that nothing happened during your pool’s downtime and it is ready for another full spring and summer of fun.

Here are a few things you can to make sure your pool transitions from winter to spring without an issue.

  • Restore any water that was drained or last over the winter, bring the pool back up to its normal level.
  • Make sure your pool’s pump skimmer, strainer, and skimmer baskets are clean and in place.
  • Check the pH, alkalinity, and chlorine levels of your water.
    • Ideal pH range: 7.4 to 7.6
    • Ideal alkalinity range: 80 to 120ppm
    • Ideal chlorine range: 2.0 to 4.0

Thoroughly brush, vacuum, and skim the pool to remove dirt and debris. You should also check your automated pool cleaner if it has been inactive.

This is also a good time to address the landscaping around your pool. In terms of aesthetics, this is an opportunity remove any dead or overgrown plants or branches. This can save a lot of headaches as everything begins to bloom and grown in the spring.
