7 Pool Activities for Family Fun in Baton RougeWith its completion quickly approaching, you and your family are so excited to christen your new Baton Rouge inground pool with a summer of parties, games, and family fun.

We’re excited for you! That’s why we’ve compiled this list.

7 Favorite Family Pool Games:

Marco Polo
Do we really need to break this one down for you? Just think of it as tag with an echolocating spin. Playable in any pool size or shape, “Marco” closes his/her eyes and calls out, “MARCO”. Everyone else responds, “POLO!” The first person Marco tags becomes the new Marco. And don’t get caught out of the pool! Any “Fish out of water” is automatically the new Marco.

Sharks and Minnows
Another golden oldie, Sharks and Minnows is a pretty simple catch-and-release game, with a ton of different variations. To begin, one person is designated as the “shark” and stands in the middle of the pool. All the “minnows” line up against a wall. When the shark shouts, “Minnows, come to lunch!” all the minnows attempt to swim across the pool and touch the other wall without being tagged by the shark. If you’re tagged, you join the shark. The round is over when the last minnow is caught. The final minnow becomes the first shark in the next round.

Basketball
Want to shoot some hoops from the comfort of your new pool? You can invest in an in-pool floating basket, a poolside backboard, or just pull a big bucket up to the edge of your pool and start practicing your form today!

Treasure Hunt
Toss a few coins, diving rings, or other waterproof sinkable toys (bonus theme points if you have pirate swords or other nautically-themed toys!) into the water and send your explorers diving for buried treasure. Easy to customize for different swimming ability/comfort levels (keep it to the steps for those nervous pirates), this is a great game for adventurers of all ages!

Tug-of-War
Got a few ratty old towels laying around? Tie them end-to-end and mark center. Divide into two evenly matched teams and designate an impartial judge (thanks, Mom!) as referee. When the ref says pull, the first team to tug the rope to their side and keep it for 3 Mississippis wins! This game is perfect for a long, narrow pool!

Volleyball
Not afraid of a little intrafamily competition? This volleyball net stands on its own (without attaching to your brand-new coping) and is perfect for water, land, or sand volleyball games!

Underwater Tea Party
When it comes to underwater tea parties, it’s always tea time. Take a big breath and show off your pantomime skills underwater, sipping “tea” and carrying on bubbling conversation. For the sake of safety, keep this game near a wall or ladder in the shallow end.

Whether you’re passing the teacakes underwater or trying to sneak around without splashing Marco, a properly maintained in-ground pool in Baton Rouge can create a place for fun and family bonding for many years to come.
