In many cases, it’s a practical step to protect the structure and equipment from further damage. Some of the most common signs it’s time to consider a renovation include: - Outdated or faded plaster, tile, or coping - Frequent leaks or ongoing repair needs - [**Older equipment that struggles**](https://www.lucasfirminpools.com/blog/pool-drainage-and-flooding-what-baton-rouge-homeowners-should-know) to keep up with water quality demands - Uneven decking or cracks forming around the pool’s perimeter - A layout or design that no longer fits your lifestyle These issues often develop slowly but can lead to costly repairs if ignored. Renovating early helps prevent damage and gives homeowners the opportunity to upgrade to more efficient, low-maintenance systems.   ### **High-Value Pool Renovations** Not all pool upgrades deliver the same return. The best renovations improve function, efficiency, and durability while also refreshing the appearance of your backyard. - **Resurfacing and tile replacement:** Restores water retention, prevents leaks, and gives the pool a clean, updated look. New plaster has a smoother surface than weathered plaster, making it harder for algae and other growths to attach. As plaster deteriorates, loose material can clog filters and drains, so [**resurfacing**](https://www.lucasfirminpools.com/blog/baton-rouge-pool-resurfacing-and-remodeling-services-the-benefits-of-resurfacing-your-pool) helps protect water quality and equipment. - **Equipment upgrades:** [**Installing variable-speed pumps**](https://www.lucasfirminpools.com/pool-pumps), efficient heaters, and automation systems improves circulation and lowers energy use. - **Deck repairs or replacements:** Eliminates safety hazards and enhances the overall appearance of the pool area. - **Filtration and sanitation upgrades:** Modern systems improve water quality, simplify maintenance, and extend the life of your pool’s equipment. ### **Modern Pool Renovation Ideas** Lucas Firmin Pools offers several design upgrades that enhance both style and enjoyment while maintaining structural integrity and long-term performance. - **LED pool lighting:** Adds ambiance, extends evening usability, and improves safety. - **Water features (waterfalls, deck jets, scuppers):** Bring motion, sound, and visual interest to the pool area. - **Tanning ledge/Baja shelf:** Creates a shallow space for lounging, relaxation, or play. - **Automation systems:** Allow you to control lighting, heating, and cleaning schedules from one system or smartphone app, making pool care easier and more efficient. ### **Choosing the Right Pool Contractor for Renovations** A successful pool renovation starts with experience.
