Tanning ledges, sometimes called sun shelves or Baja shelves, are partially submerged, shallow sections of the pool where you can unwind, sunbathe, or chill off without going under.  ### Relaxation and Comfort in and Around Your Pool A cozy and welcoming area for tanning in the sun while remaining half submerged in the cool water is what tanning ledges do. It's the ideal place to relax, soak up some sun, and take in the calming atmosphere of your backyard. ### Safe Pool Environment for All Ages Children, older people, and even pets can enjoy the pool in a safe, shallow area with tanning ledges without constant supervision. These sun shelves keep everyone relaxed and comfortable while giving parents and caregivers peace of mind. ### Pool Versatility and Functionality Tanning ledges are a flexible addition to any pool design because they can be used for a variety of purposes. They can be used for enjoying the sun, setting up lounge chairs, or even using them as a play area for young kids. Some homeowners even choose to improve the utility and appearance of their tanning ledge by installing built-in bubblers or umbrella sleeves. ### Aesthetic Pool Appeal Tanning ledges enhance the visual appeal of your pool and create a gorgeous focal point that draws attention while adding dimension and visual intrigue to your outdoor space. Your tanning ledge's design, size, and style can be tailored to fit your tastes and lifestyle while also blending in with your home's architecture. A tanning ledge in your custom pool design offers many advantages, ranging from safety and relaxation to adaptability and visual appeal.
